2011 Fall Camp-O-Ree

What was the 2011 District Fall Camporee ??

On October 21-23, 2011, hundreds of  Scouts and their leaders set up camp at the Fall Camporee, located at Camp Norse in Kingston, MA.  This event brought scouts together from the entirety of the Seven Rivers District of the Old Colony Council.  It was similar in concept to the Klondike Derby weekend that Troop 10 has participated in each Winter.  However this was a pure Boy Scout activity (no Cub Scouts) and all activities were oriented to Boy Scout skill levels and beyond.

The theme for this Camporee was "Survivor Scouts vs The Wild", inspired in part by the popular "Survivor" television series.  Patrols from all the troops competed against each other for points, as they tested their physical fitness and demonstrated their Scouting skills in camping, pioneering, map skills, knots, first aid, archery, obstacle course and others.   They participated in the traditional skill events such as first aid and fire building.  The featured events are shown below.  Troops were judged on the organization, safety, kitchen sanitation and cleanliness of their site, and on their troop Gateway.   On Saturday night there was a "Tribal Council" campfire attended by all the troops.

Scheduled Patrol Competitive Activities
"Facing the Elements"                               (Shelter Building)
"Warmth, Warmth, Warmth"                   (Fire Building)
