Merit Badge University - 2010
(Updated 2/26/10)

*NEW*  What Classes Did I Actually Get?
Click here to find out what classes you received for MBU.

*NEW*  When and Where do I get my Merit Badge Booklets?
Mr Wheeler has now received the Merit Badge booklets, and has them at his house.  It is YOUR responsibility to come and pick them up.  He cannot bring them to MBU for you.
Please call before you come over to get them.

*NEW*  What About Lunch at MBU?
Scouts are highly encouraged to "brown bag" their own lunches.  There will two 20 minute breaks, each between the three class periods.  It is during either of these breaks that Scouts can eat their lunch in the outside school "Courtyard".  There will be food tables available where you may buy a sandwich & chips for $3, soda for $1 and snacks for $1.  However, I expect that these will be crowded and you may waste much of your time waiting in line, instead of eating.
Food and drinks MAY NOT be consumed in the classrooms.
Please be aware that the Courtyard area, and the food for sale is not guaranteed to be "nut-free".  The Cafeteria "B" will be available for those with food allergies.

What is Merit Badge University?
The 2010 Merit Badge University (MBU) is an opportunity for all Old Colony Council Boy Scouts to work on a variety of merit badges.  Scouts will be able to study and potentially earn up to three merit badges in a single month.  Merit badges offered will include many that are required for Eagle, as well as badges that are not offered at summer camp.  Take advantage of this great advancement opportunity!!  If you have any questions, contact your Scoutmaster.

When will MBU take place?
The event will take place on three Saturdays: March 6th, 13th and 27th, 2010.  The activities will be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm, with the Merit Badge classes being held from 9:15am to 12:55pm.   Scouts must attend all three sessions, in full Class A uniform, to receive credit for their classes.

Where will MBU take place?
The 2010 MBU will be held at the Southeastern Vocational Technical School in Easton.  Transportation to/from MBU is the responsibility of each Scout.  There will be no organized transportation provided by Troop 10.

What are the requirements for attending MBU?

bullet

You must attend all three Saturdays of MBU to receive credit for your courses, even courses that you you would normally receive a partial on.

bullet

Class "A" uniforms are manditory for every day at MBU.

bullet

Scouts must bring a notebook, pencils/pens and the Merit Badge pamphlets to each class taken.  (Pamphlets will be issued on the first day of class.  There is no need to buy your own.)

How does a Scout enroll?
Unfortunately, due to constraints imposed by the Council, the MBU Registration forms will not be  available until the January 12 troop meeting.  Each Scout must turn in a completed Merit Badge registration form and $20 check made out to "Troop 10 Medfield", by the January 19th troop meeting

Because of safety and occupancy regulations, total enrollment at the MBU is limited.  Class sizes will be limited to roughly 15 Scouts each, and will be assigned on an as-needed basis.  This means that you may not get all of your first-choice classes.  You will be assigned alternate classes if the need arises.

How much does MBU cost?
The enrollment fee is $20 per Scout.  Because of constraints placed upon us by the Council, the due date for registration forms & fees is January 19th.

What is provided at MBU?
All your Merit Badge books, and an event participation patch are provided by MBU.
