Latest Updates From MBU - 2/28/12

bullet

Doors to the school will not open until 8:30am.  So please dress according to the weather conditions, as you will have to remain outside until then.  When the doors do open, proceed to your first classroom.  The first class begins at 8:45am.

Bring your Room Assignments (see above link), Maps of the school (see above links), your Merit Badge books, a Notebook and Pencils.  It would be best if you carried this stuff in a day-pack, along with your lunch

bullet

There will be plenty of adult "hall monitors" all around the school, to assist you in locating your rooms.

bullet

You must be in Class-A uniform.  The instructors will make note of this in the classrooms.

bullet

The last class ends at 12:45pm.  Parents cannot "live park" in the driveway leading to the entrance of the building.  You must park in the parking lots and walk to the entrance to pick up your son.

What is Merit Badge University?
The 2012 Merit Badge University (MBU) is an opportunity for Old Colony Council Boy Scouts to work on a variety of merit badges.  Scouts will be able to study and potentially earn up to three merit badges in a single month.  Merit badges offered will include many that are required for Eagle, as well as lots of badges that are not offered at summer camp.  Take advantage of this great advancement opportunity!!  If you have any questions, contact your Scoutmaster.

When will MBU take place?
The event will take place on three Saturdays: March 3rd, 10th and 24th, 2012.  The activities will be held from 8:30am to 12:45pm.  Scouts must attend all three sessions, in full Class A uniform, to receive credit for their classes.

Where will MBU take place?
The 2012 MBU will again be held at the Southeastern Vocational Technical School in Easton, 250 Foundry St, (Rte 106), Easton, MA.  Transportation to/from MBU is the responsibility of each Scout.  There will be no organized transportation provided by Troop 10.

What badges are expected to be available at MBU this year?

What are the requirements for attending MBU?

bullet

You must turn in your completed Registration form and check by the end of the November 29 troop meeting.

bullet

You must be a registered member of your troop as of December 9, 2011.

bullet

You must attend all three Saturdays of MBU to receive credit for your courses, even courses that you would normally receive a partial on.

bullet

Class "A" uniforms are manditory for every day at MBU.

bullet

Scouts must bring a notebook, pencils/pens and the Merit Badge pamphlets to each class taken.  (Pamphlets will be given to you in February.  There is no need to buy your own.)

How does a Scout enroll?
The MBU Registration forms will be emailed to each Scout, and will be available at the November 22 & 29 troop meetings.  Each Scout must turn in a completed registration form and $20 check made out to "Troop 10 Medfield", by the end of the November 29 troop meeting

Registrations can not be accepted after November 29 !!    Sorry, we need to get these back to MBU a few days later.

Because of safety and occupancy regulations, total enrollment at the MBU is limited.  Class sizes will be limited (some more than others), and will be assigned on an as-needed basis.  This means that you may not get all of your first-choice classes.  You will be assigned alternate classes if the need arises.

How much does MBU cost?
The enrollment fee is $20 per Scout.  The final due date for registration forms & fees is the November 29 troop meeting.

What is provided at MBU?
All your Merit Badge books, and an event participation patch are provided by MBU.

What About Lunch at MBU?
Scouts are highly encouraged to "brown bag" their own lunches.  There will two 20 minute breaks, each between the three class periods.  It is during either of these breaks that Scouts can eat their lunch in the school Gymnasium.  There will be food tables available where you may buy a sandwich & chips for $3, soda for $1 and snacks for $1.  (These are last year's prices.  This year's have not been announced.)
However, I expect that these tables will be crowded and you may waste much of your time waiting in line, instead of eating.
Food and drinks MAY NOT be consumed in the classrooms.

>>  Please be aware that the Gymnasium, and the food for sale there is not guaranteed to be "nut-free".
>>  Cafeteria "B" will be the only "nut-free" eating area safe for those with food allergies.
