TROOP 10 GUIDELINES FOR
SHELLFISH & NUT FREE TRIPS & MEALS We are attempting to provide a safe environment for our scouts who are allergic to various food, specifically shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts & sesame seeds. This is a very difficult process to perfect and because of the cross contamination issue, we will ask that all scouts follow this procedure. The simplest way to achieve a successful nut free menu is to purchase simple ingredients and to avoid pre-packaged (rice mixes, hamburger helper, Hungry Man dinners etc.) & prepared foods. Bakery items are difficult to determine, especially self serve items. Store brands & generic brands are notorious for poor labeling and potential contamination. The large, nation wide brands are typically the best at control of ingredients & labeling. Read all labels thoroughly including ingredients, allergen information and “manufactured in a facility…” In all cases please make the best possible effort to be sure that ingredient labels are included, even if the food is repacked for traveling. The following are some suggestions:
Breakfast:
Lunch & Dinner:
Snack Food: The list above is simply for suggestion; it is by no means exclusive. The easiest way to keep to the program is to buy simple ingredients. |
